Montessori Education is a method of learning founded by Dr. Maria Montessori.  Nokomis Montessori is one of three Public Montessori Schools in the Saint Paul Public School district.  Nokomis serves students living on the East side of St. Paul.

The Montessori environment contains specially designed, manipulative "materials for development" that invite children to engage in learning activities of their own individual choice. Under the guidance of a trained teacher, children in a Montessori classroom learn by making discoveries with the materials, cultivating concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning.

All classroom teachers are Montessori certified providing the community with a common philosophy.

Nokomis provides a strong balanced literacy program where trained teachers use a variety of specific teaching methods to help students learn reading and writing. Students participate in small reading groups providing opportunities for students to work at their own level.

Enrichment and extended learning opportunity are incorporated into the curriculum for gifted and talented students. Enrichment activities include literacy/reading groups, writers workshop and science projects.

ALC Extended Day classes meet twice a week to provide additional academic support for students.

Parent involvement opportunities include PTA, Hmong PTA, Site Council and frequent school-wide activities.

Learning Standards Booklets For Families
Saint Paul Public Schools created Learning Standards documents for families to better understand the expectations for our students in tested subject areas (literacy, math, and science) in each grade, and to offer suggestions for how families can support learning at home. View Booklets
