We are one of five E2 classrooms comprised of 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students at Nokomis Montessori.
This year in "cultures" we are studying Ancient History, including early humans, archeology, and ancient civilizations. This is an exciting year for students to explore in a larger context the contributions that have been made throughout history that are significant and relevant to their individual lives.
Reader's Workshop occurs daily, and we have the pleasure of having Ms. Ela and Mr. Dan in our room each day for this learning. Students participate in independent reading, mini-lessons, reading groups, or word study lessons.
Writer's Workshop follows a similar format of mini-lessons and work time. Throughout the year students will explore different genres of writing, while also incorporating work from their word study and grammar lessons.
For the majority of the day, students are with their homeroom in the multi-age grouping of fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. For math, students are grouped by grade level. Fourth grade students this year are learning math utilizing the beautiful Montessori math materials available that allow students to concretely practice a math concept before working solely with pencil and paper.
