Welcome to Nokomis Science 2008-9!  My name is Ann Thonet.  It's a big world and we're busy learning about it at Nokomis.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching children and science.  I am a wife and the mother of three old children.  I enjoy spending time with family and friends, biking, yoga, reading, listening to music and Soduko.

Science at Nokomis
is based on the Lawrence Hall of Science program called Full Option Science System (F.O.S.S). Topics are taught through engaging and educational lessons. Children learn through hands-on, discovery based activities. Every grade level has its own set of topics to investigate during the year. Students are expected to demonstrate their level of learning in order to fulfill Graduation Standards requirements.

E1 classes come to science class for 10 days in a row and then attend Phy Ed or Technology classes when not in Science.  E2 classes come to science every 20 days for a 10-day rotation.  Best times to contact me is 8-8:45 a.m. or 11-11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.

As of 11/24, fourth and first graders are coming to science and they will finish their ten days on Friday.

The Nokomis Science Fair is scheduled for March 26, 2009.  I will start sending information home in January.  Sixth graders will need to develop, prepare and present an experimental project.  Fourth and fifth graders may  participate in the Science Fair if they choose.  E1 students are welcome to prepare and present a project also.  This year I am introducing the information for the Inventor's Fair.  It's new and interesting!

You are always welcome to stop by the Science Room.  There's always something interesting going on!
