Welcome to room 101!  This is my third year teaching at Nokomis. I graduated from Santa Clara University with an Elementary Education and a Spanish major.  I have my Masters of Education from the University of Minnesota and my Masters of Montessori Education from St. Kate's.  I live in St. Paul with my husband and our dog, Etta.

I truly love working with your children.  Each day we work together to learn and grow as a community.  Children learn by watching and working with others.

We have 14 energetic pre-K students  that come to school for a portion of the school day. (9:15-12:00)  We learn during a Montessori work period where children choose work from the different curriculum areas.  We enjoy stories everyday.

There are also 13 kindergarten students that are wonderful leaders in the morning and hard workers in the afternoon.  Kindergarten

students experience Reader's and Writer's Workshop.  Chivouayi, an ELL teacher, works with us at this time to help differentiate instruction.  Our goal is to meet the individual needs of each child.  There is also another work period at the end of the day.

The Montessori Work Period:

    • Children are given individual lessons from the teacher.
    • Each lesson is precise in order, language and procedure.
    • The children choose materials from the shelves.
    • The shelves are organized into different  areas.
    • This is an amazing time to observe the children learning.
