Mai Houa's Classroom Site
Welcome to Room 214's classroom site.

Our classroom is a community of fourth, fifth, and sixth graders who work hard to create a classroom that supports the academic progress, social development, and safety of each member.  We strive for a peaceful classroom.

Each school day includes Writer's Workshop, Cultural Studies, Mathematics, Specialty Classes (Physical Education, Music, Science) and Reader's Workshop.  Our class is fortunate to have ELL teacher, Leona Haupt, and Literacy teacher, Jodi Beach, working in our classroom during Reader's Workshop.  This collaboration makes it possible to meet with all the students in very small groups on a regular basis, as well as frequent one-on-one reading conferences.  The groupings provide emphasis for all learners at their appropriate level.  This is the perfect setting to provide extra practice for those who need it and extensions for the GT students.

The Cultural Studies focus this year is MN Studies.  This theme is integrated into much of the reading curriculum and writing curriculum. Extending the Cultural Studies are field trips to the MN State Capital, J J Hill House, Fort Snelling State Park, and MN History Center, just to name a few. We will also study the Native Americans in the MN region and be viewing artwork from these tribes.
