Collaborative Project
Ideas
Are you at a loss as to what to do with your school's computer lab and/or computers in your classroom. The
ideas
described below are a sampling of possibilities and can be
implemented in a variety of settings involving various content.
- Interactive Group Lesson: Classroom setting - where
students are not at individual computer workstations, rather
the
teacher delivers a lesson with one computer/projector station while
students participate with the “teacher” during an interactive, guided
lesson.
- Computer Lab or Mobile
Lab Activity: Classroom setting where
students work in pairs or individually at computer
workstations
while the teacher guides students through activities.
- Student Learning
Station: Students work
independently or in small groups on specific tasks while the teacher is
busy with other students.

Topic | Software
| Setting | Project Choices
| | Productivity
Software | Spreadsheet
Software:
To organize, compute, and present in charts and graphs numerical data.
| Lab | Graphing
(Science, Social Studies) Students will learn how to
effectively
use a spreadsheet, utilizing formulas and creating charts (pie, column,
and line). Teachers will select any set of data for project and
integration purposes: population, distance, temperature,
research
data. Formulas
(Math) Gain a general knowledge
of spreadsheets and learn to effectively use spreadsheet formulas to
perform calculations. Students will create calculators for
purposes of solving problems they are faced with in their daily
assignments. Calculation possibilities include addition, subtraction,
multiplication, division, area, perimeter, and time/distance.
|
| Presentation
Software:
To deliver student
projects, including
text, images, sound, movies, and animation.
| Lab | Presentation
(Any Subject) Students
can
research topics and learn to create basic AppleWorks, PowerPoint, or
Keynote presentations or "slide shows." Presentations will include
text, images, charts, and tables.
| | Word-Processor
Software:
To organize research notes for research writing.
| Lab | Word Processing Project
(Language Arts, Writing) Writing topics could include writing directions,
sequencing, explanations, business letters, dialogue, essay, biography,
news reports, short stories, personal narratives, friendly letters,
announcements, poetry, and book reports.
| | Database
Software:
To organize any
collection of text, numbers, and pictures.
| Lab | Database (Social
Studies or Science) Students will learn to enter records and to manipulate and
access data from a database. Students can research topic within a
larger topic (such as Idaho with the larger topic
of American states). Students then take their research notes and enter
their data (research data in the form of text, numbers, and photos)
into individual database files. The individual files are then combined
to form large databases containing all of the student
research. |
| Draw Software:
Creating
and measuring points, lines, rays, and
angles. | Lab |
Draw Tools
(Math: Geometry) Gain a general
understanding for AppleWorks Draw software. Students can use
draw
tools to investigate points, lines, rays, and angles: measuring,
creating, rotating, and defining.

| United Streaming Students will learn the use of United
Streaming, an online resource for on demand video
presentation.
Clips are organized by complete title or individual segments. Students
will benefit from high-quality video learning experiences related to
current curriculum requirements. Download and edit video clips into
student-created 'documentaries,' utilizing the student voice as
narrator. |

- Book of International Lands and People
- Book of America the Beautiful
- Dictionary
- Atlas
